The hairstyle turned out nice, and the staff were polite and worked well together. However, the overall experience was far from smooth, starting from ...the moment I made the appointment. My frustration began with the lack of a straightforward price. Instead, I was given a range of reasons for fluctuating costs, such as my height, whether they would blend the hair, and other vague factors. As an African woman who has frequented African braiding salons before, I’m familiar with what’s typically included in the service and what isn’t. This salon, however, seemed to add charges for whatever they could think of, which felt unfair and inconsistent. On the day of the appointment, I was initially quoted over $420 for a style that had been agreed upon to cost between $260 and $280. After some back-and-forth, we settled on $300—not because I believed the style warranted that price, but because I was leaving for vacation the next day and had no time to find a Plan B. This was frustrating, especially since I’ve had the same style done for $220 or less at other salons. Their justification was inflation, but the pricing still felt excessive. Additionally, they claimed my hair required more hair extensions because it was “long,” even though my hair is only shoulder-length. This reasoning made no sense to me, as my hair length was never discussed during the initial consultation. Why should I pay extra for something that’s beyond my control? I wasn’t the only customer who had issues with the pricing. This salon charges significantly more than braiding shops in even Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C. For example, two customers came in requesting cornrows and were quoted $100 each. One was even charged an additional $20 just to have their hair combed out, which was shocking. Cornrows typically cost around $45 in Richmond, Virginia, so these prices felt unjustified. The salon also tried to charge one customer extra for having short hair, which contradicted their reasoning for charging me extra for having “long” hair. It seemed like there was no ideal hair length—everyone was being overcharged. Another issue was the requirement to pay in full before the service was completed. This was the first time I’d ever encountered such a policy. While I understand they may have had issues with customers refusing to pay in the past, it felt insulting to be treated with such distrust. I would have been more comfortable paying a 50% deposit upfront and the remaining balance after the service. The insistence on full payment upfront created an uncomfortable dynamic, as if my money wasn’t good enough unless paid immediately. Communication was another major problem. Despite sending pictures of the desired style to the owner beforehand, there was confusion about what I wanted. I had requested single braids with Boho hair and provided a photo of myself wearing the same style. I also asked for curly ends, but they initially said no. It wasn’t until I expressed visible dissatisfaction that they agreed to add the curls. Even then, the finishing touches were incomplete. Only the tips of my hair were dipped in hot water, leaving the top stiff. I had to fix this myself at home using a hot towel. While the final result looked nice, the lack of communication between the owner and staff, inconsistent pricing, and overall lack of structure left a sour taste. Not knowing the final cost until arriving at the salon, being overcharged for arbitrary reasons, and feeling distrusted as a customer are not experiences I want to repeat. For these reasons, I don’t plan on returning to this salon. Show more

Hello Dear, I understand where you are coming from. As a business owner for over 25yrs I know what i'm doing and what i say to my customers. When you’re talking about pricing, a hairstyle that will take 4hrs is different from hair style that will last for 6hrs or above. And the amount we charge for hairstyle of 4hrs is not the same as that of 6hrs or more. When i talked with you on the phone, i told you we charged $260 and up depending on the length and size. When you talking about doing your hair in other salon for $220 or less that could not be compare to a style that will cost $400 or up. Talking about other salons in Richmond to DC Washington, some salon charge $600 and up for small boho braids so we can’t compare salons and their prices. When you talking about $20 to comb hair, we can't spend 30min to comb hair for free. We will appreciate customers comb they're hair before coming to avoid paying the $20. I went to a salon here in Richmond to wash, treat and straight my hair and i had to pay $165 which i didn't complain because the girl did her job and that's their price. Kady No 1 hair braiding, we are professionals, we are clean and we know how to take care of our customers. You can't compare what you buy in dollar tree with what you will buy in Saks Fifth Avenue.

I loved the Energy of everyone there. We were running late & they even called to see if we were still interested in the appointment(Very Considerate)I... have a severe headache condition & they did everything to accommodate me(Decreasing the tightness,Using sprays to loosen them more etc)We will utilize their shop moving forward.My daughter waited last minute & they did her hair without hesitation.I also Like the weekend hours..If you get a chance drop in & take a peek!! All I can say is becareful. I asked the stylist for two strand twist for my daughter. She had no idea what she was doing and put some pickaninny plats... in my daughter hair. Charged me 30 dollars to wash the hair and 100 to style. These ppl are horrible. On the left is what I asked for. On the right is what she did. Then she know she messed up because she gave me 20 dollars back. SMH!! Show more
