I overall had a good experience. I was there for a long time, but it didn’t really feel like a long time (for knotless, boho bob with tricolors). It w...as a clean, comfortable, and calm environment- which I deeply appreciated. Vicky has very gentle hands, perhaps too gentle for a hair wash but was perfect for blow drying and braiding. I will give a few critiques about my experience. The first is in regards to preparation. I followed the instructions listed in the rules of the shop- to put a note, when paying deposit, detailing the requests and specifications for my appointment. I left a very detailed note and no one read that comment before confirming my appointment. When I arrived, I had to ask what color they were using, because they were only separating 1B, making an assumption about what I wanted. I would’ve loved for the person who confirmed my appointment to have read my notes, and then correspond with me about my appointment- whether through phone calls or email or text… and then I believe Ruth spoke to me on the phone to clarify my request and she tried to blame me or make an excuse like sometimes they don’t have the color in stock and if a client books close to the appointment requested they might not get the hair they desire… no, I chose the colors listed in the shop- so I assumed that it’s in stock or easily accessible. All of it was for not because Ruth had the colors as I assumed she would. It also would’ve been nice to receive directions on entering her place of business, because you have to go to the back of the house, through the side gate. I knocked on the front door and I didn’t want to disturb her family. Lastly, although Vicky is skilled and gentle, she is a bit slow- especially with parting the hair… and sadly I can’t tell my middle part is a bit squiggly. It’s not super noticeable at all, but when looking closely. Also, the videos she took were kind of long and happened multiple times.I’ve never had it be a whole production before lol. It wasn’t horrible and I didn’t feel pressured but next time I may decline the request. All in all, I had a lovely experience.and I will utilize their services next time I’m in the DMV. Show more

They were very rude, she did not want to do my hair fully, and still wanted money. ...They were unwelcoming and they will talk about you, and the space is very uncomfortable with an unpleasant smell! it’s rather unfortunate that u came up here and wrote this about your experience with us. First of all u booked a 4 stitch braids style, your hair wasn't upto 6inches long as a standard length required for the style. U asked to washed your hair and we did, about to do your hair u showed a 12 to 18 stitch braids complex hair style. I (Ruth) politely and professionally told u that "we couldn’t do what u were asking for at the moment becuz it took longer and will affect our schedule, also told u it will cost more. However we could stick to the straight 4stitchbraids u had booked. " U decided not to get your hair done. We asked for the $20 cost of the wash and blow out already done. All this happened with another client in the shop. No one was rude or disrespectful about who u choose to be (gay). I have done so many gay male clients and non will or has ever said anything negative about their experiences. We offer free consultation, if u had done that before booking a lot of hard feelings from your end could have been avoided. It’s okay if u can’t afford my prices, someone else’s price might work for u, it was needless for u to have texted again saying “ugly African bitch"and more. Later on come here acting like the victim.

Real Review, Please Read; After having locs for almost three years. I did the big chop. Once my hair grew long enough. I knew I wanted braids. I went... searching booksy for braiders in my area. I came across (Ruth'sGlowing Braids). I did my research of course. I read through Ruth's policy, checked out her profile and read through every single review. 🔍😂 I also reached out to her directly to inquire about her services and to get a better feel for her professionalism and character. I can actually say, she communicates well and is very welcoming. Now, I was ready to take the next step. I booked my appointment and tipped ahead of time. Because I encourage good service. She messaged me about one of the colors I requested was hard to find. Though she provided a great substitute for the color I originally ask for. My anxiety was still through the roof. Because this was my first encounter with her and her prices can be a little intimidating. Anyway, I arrived and she started my hair on time. She works out of the back of her home. The shop was clean and well equipped with everything needed to get the job done. She had two other ladies assisting her and they were friendly and professional as well. I felt at ease and I was out of the chair on schedule. My hair is laid to the most high and I feel beautiful. 🙌🏾👸🏾 I am more than satisfied and my money was well spent. Ruth’s Glowing braids is the absolute truth! She makes you feel at home and comfortable in her place of business. I have been going to her for a while... now, and she has never failed to do the task. Her parts are clean and crisp. I am tender headed and when she does my hair I am not jumping or flinching. She is so gentle. Even after she is done I look like myself and my hair is not pulling and hurting. My hair lasts for months at a time . Thank you Ruth!
